The University of Alberta Press and the Canadian Literature Centre have published Lawrence Hill’s essay Dear Sir, I Intend to Burn Your Book: An Anatomy of a Book Burning, first delivered in Edmonton as the 2012 Kreisel Lecture.
AMINATA remporte Le Combat des livres
Aminata, la traduction française du roman canadien The Book of Negroes, a remporté Le Combat des livres 2013. Cette victoire réprésente un doublé pour le roman, qui, dans sa version anglaise, a gagné le concours CBC Canada Reads en 2009. Le combat des livres, fort attendu du public, fut diffusé durant une semaine sur les ondes de Radio-Canada à l'émission « Plus on est de fous, plus on lit! ». Le débat détermina lequel parmi les cinq livres sélectionnés devrait être lu cette année par tous les Québécois. AMINATA Wins Le Combat des livres on Radio-Canada
Aminata, the French translation of the novel The Book of Negroes, has won Le combat des livres 2013. The win constitutes a double victory for the novel, which, in English, won CBC Radio's Canada Reads 2009. A week-long debate, Le Combat des livres was followed with interest in Quebec and in other Francophone communities and broadcast on Radio-Canada's show « Plus on est de fous, plus on lit! ». The debate took place to decide which book, among five nominated, should be read this year by all Québécois. Aminata was defended by Thomas Hellman, a Montreal-based singer-songwriter, poet and literary critic. Click here for a news release, in French.
The Book of Negroes Translated into French
Lawrence Hill's novel The Book of Negroes has been translated into French by Carole Noel. Released by the Montreal-based publisher Les Editions de la Pleine Lune, it became a bestseller in Québec. Published by Présence Africaine in France and Africa, it was shortlisted for the Fetkann literary prize. In French, the novel is called AMINATA.
